Jada Pinkett-Smith revealed the full episode of her new Mother’s Day web series special, ‘Red Table Talks.’ In the premiere episode, Smith invites fans and onlookers into an open conversation between herself, her daughter, Willow and mother, Adrienne Banefield-Jones, in hopes of encouraging families to strengthen their lines of communication between each other.

The clip starts off with Jada explaining why she chose a red table as the symbol/theme of their conversation and why she believes in the importance of communication. Adrienne kicked off the conversation by asking Jada if she holds any resentment toward her about how she was was raised. Before Jada answered, Adrienne explained to Willow the reasoning behind her question:

“Jada did not have the kind of life that you have now. And I was not a good mother in my eyes. And I know that your Mom believes that all experiences good and bad help make you the person that you are today. But I just feel like during those times, the bad times outweighed the good. And that’s how I see it in my mind. Because I was on drugs until your Mom was 17 or 18 years old. That’s a long time. All of her formative years. I have been clean for 22 years and I went into therapy [...] But I felt like there were things that needed to be said that she needed to get off her chest. I have been so caught up in my own guilt for years.”

Jada went on to say that although her mother allowed her to do whatever she wanted when she was younger, she never saw her childhood as bad and reminded her mother of how she allowed her to be herself and allowed her to follow her dreams. Willow was next up to ask Jada how hard it is to be a wife and a mother:

“It’s a paradox. I’ve learned that my life is full of much paradox. So being a wife and a mother is probably one of the most extraordinary experiences and the most fulfilling experiences in my life. But at the same time, it has been very difficult to balance, being able to do the things that I want to do and have the freedoms that I want to have, and also being responsible for your brothers and your father. And I’m constantly everyday trying to figure out that balance. Figuring out how to help you fulfill your dreams, at the same time assisting Daddy and his dreams, assisting your brothers and their dreams and then trying to figure out what my dreams are. So every day when I wake up in the morning and I go into meditation and I ask for guidance. I get focused.”

Jada stressed the importance of having a life balance and how important it is to take care of yourself first, especially when Willow decides to have her own family in the future. Jada then went on to ask Willow if there’s anything she wishes she could change about her life:

“If I were to change one thing about my life, it would probably be that I wouldn’t be famous. Because when you’re famous, it’s so hard. Let’s say like a regular girl is going to the bookstore. It’s ten times harder to go everywhere. But some people are like, ‘Oh, it’s so easy.’ And I’m like, ‘As fast as you can get there, it’s going to take me ten more minutes to get there.’ Because it’s like I have to call security, this, that…”

Willow went on to say that although she feels this way, she sometimes wants to be famous, just so she can have a louder voice when it comes to speaking out on global and social issues. Well, that’s a thoughtful thing for her to say. Check out their entire conversation in the video below.
