Don’t call it a comeback. Since giving birth to daughter Blue Ivy, Beyoncé’s style has been more relaxed and casual than what we were used to seeing from her pre-baby. At this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, aka the MET Gala, Sasha Fierce was in full diva effect.

Beyoncé walked the red carpet in a Givenchy Haute Couture feather hemmed gown. The highly detailed dress featured a sheer beaded lace overlay, and the aforementioned feather hemline that transitioned in color from an inky black to a deep violet.

As intricate and dramatic Beyoncé’s MET Gala look was, little sis Solange opted for a far more minimal look that was equally as stunning. The singer/actress/DJ, who’s always at the forefront of what’s hot in fashion, donned a yellow strapless Rachel Roy dress that was as simple as it was statement making.

Her gown featured a small train and a very on trend peplum. Solange accessorized with Sergio Rossi heels, a gold beaded Edie Parker ‘Flavia’ clutch, and a head full of curls…

Pastels and florals were a hot red carpet trend for the night. Rapper M.I.A. rocked a pastel colored, floral print silk skirt from Stella McCartney. Platform pumps, a printed clutch, a pink lip to match the pink flowers in her suit, and long flowing locks completed her look.

Paula Patton got in on the pastel trend, wearing a strapless gown from Vera Wang. The strapless rose colored dress featured an interesting neckline that had a pleated detailing that went throughout the entire bodice. She kept her accessories to a minimum carrying only a small clutch, and wearing a pair of statement earrings.

Actress Rashida Jones also went the floral/pastel route. She wore a one-shouldered silk chiffon Tory Burch gown. The black belted dress featured hand painted and hand beaded flowers. Rashida added a bit of fun to her romantic look with a fringed clutch. Teardrop earrings, and a single diamond bracelet finished her look.

It was couples night at the MET, with both Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, and La La and Carmelo Anthony walking the red carpet. Alicia and Swizz opted for all black everything, the husband and wife duo both wearing black suited looks courtesy of Givenchy.

Carmelo also donned the requisite black tuxedo and bow tie combo, in a custom look from Rag & Bone. He finished off his look with a pair of Stubbs & Wootton velvet skull embroidered slippers. Wife La La stood out from the red carpet crowd in a boldly hued bright blue Zac Posen gown.

It’s not always easy for the fellas to show a little fashion forwardness at black tie events. If you’ve seen one black tux, you’ve seen them all. But sometimes a single accessory can make a big style difference. Singer Bruno Mars walked the MET Gala red carpet wearing a Prada tux, but added just the necessary bit of something extra with a pair of aviator framed sunglasses.

Swizz Beatz wasn’t the only guy to rock a Givenchy tux on the red carpet; Kanye West also wore a black tux from the French fashion house. ‘Ye was his usual dapper self, adding a bit of visual interest to his otherwise standard tux, in the form of a few gold bracelets.

Leather was a surprisingly popular choice on the red carpet, with both Rihanna and actress Rosario Dawson wearing black leather gowns. Rihanna wore an open backed Tom Ford crocodile dress, while Rosario wore a high-necked Calvin Klein Collection gown.

Black patent leather Christian Louboutin pumps, black nails, and a chic updo completed Rihanna’s look. Rosario accessorized with a cream clutch, royal blue teardrop earrings, and kept her hair simple in a side parted, low ponytail.

What’s a fashion event without models? The MET Gala is considered to be the fashion industry’s Academy Awards, so of course the industry’s top models and designers were on had to provide an extra dose of glamour. Model Joan Smalls attended the event as the guest of Balmain head designer, 26-year-old Olivier Rousteing. Joan of course wore custom Balmain.

Liya Kebede dazzled in a hunter green sequined Tory Burch dress. Her knee-length dress featured that now ubiquitous, and definitely on trend, peplum detailing, and she completed her look with black strappy heels and a simple black clutch.

British model Jourdan Dunn was a guest of Burberry and walked the red carpet with fellow Burberry spokesmodel Cara Delevingne. Jourdan wore a cream lace Burberry gown that featured a black satin bow around the waist. She accessorized with a matching black clutch, and styled her hair in long, flowing locks.

Model Chanel Iman brought the drama and full on glamour as the guest of designer Tom Ford. Chanel wore Tom Ford (of course), donning a black and white sheer overlay detailed gown. Smokey eye makeup, red nails, a simple updo, and several diamond jewels completed her look.
